BOOK REVIEW: What The Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell

What the Dog Saw and Other Adventures What the Dog Saw and Other Adventures

REVIEW

Every time I read Malcolm Gladwell's work, it makes me think about my life and what is going on around me with a slightly bigger lens. Often, there is something in his work that makes me want to sit up a little straighter and work a little harder.

This book was a collection of his articles written for the New Yorker magazine. All of these pieces were interesting and fun to read. You don't necessarily need to agree with everything in them to enjoy them.

The value of the articles here is not in the information that they give you, though that is interesting on its own, it is the questions that they raise. In every article there are questions about the topic and about what that topic means for the larger world.

There are even questions about how we ask and answer questions, which is probably the most valuable thing of all in this book. This all sounds pretty high minded for a book that has articles about infomercials, hair color, aerial photography, and pit bulls. But somehow, that is where Gladwell manages to take us as he writes about everything from Heinz Ketchup (which scientifically is the best ketchup) to Homelessness.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the way the world works acorss a variety of disciplines.

BRITE LITEs

Now i see the light
Piercing through my window
Tearing down the curtains
Swallowing the shadows.

I have lingered in the dark
To know light will find me soon
I have beckon for seasons
You appeared, but skeptical i was.

Is this the light?
Oh, i have waited too long!

This must be the light!
I feel vigor run through my marrow
And a cold spring run through my throat
This is a fountain of WATER.

Plants will wither
Even Red Roses will lose beauty in season of drought
But this fountain never run dry
I got a jar filled with it already.

Now, i grin to the ear
Smile to the bank
Look into the mirror
And love what i see.
