Steal This Idea Part 2
What do people really do in an elevator??.......Think about it…………………..Nothing. Or is there? No, no, not quickies while the elevator is stalled. All we do is keep silent especially if we are with people we do not know. We try not to stare, and we look towards the door or stare at the mirror. Again I thought…. why are there mirrors in elevators? It’s simple. It’s a form of engagement just so you don’t feel alone. I work in a place where I use the elevator every day and these thoughts come to mind daily but what do I do instead??...Keep reading.
Imagine a Tower with 75 Floors
Just Imagine a skyscraper with 75 floors. It’ll take you more than 10mins to get to the rooftop from the ground especially if it stops along the way for more people to join in. Some of the idle moments spent in the elevator can be taken advantage of.One of it is to fix a LCD screen or a digital signage system in it. It can be used in offices, hotels, public buildings or malls for entertainment or advert purposes. It can display pictures or videos (with or without audio). Most malls have escalators or glass elevators. It is still workable for the glass.
The screen can also be used to pass vital information. For example if I live in a condominium where most people are busy working class, a sure way to pass a general notice for residents is through the elevator. 1004 Flats in Victoria Island is what comes to mind here.

Idea Is Nothing
I had this idea in 2010 on one of my visits to the head office of the company I work with and I had this feeling like I discovered an oil field—like ‘Wooow!!! Yes! This is it!’…’this is so unprecedented!’ So I did my search on Google and discovered that it has been in existence since 2007. Goddammit! That was the end.
I have been in elevators of the best hotels and towers in Lagos, some outside Nigeria; I have never come across any with display screens. This is why I posted this. Someone should please take the idea and run with it.
As for me, I found an alternative use for the elevator in my workplace. It’s for one of my idiosyncrasies. The mirror – every morning when I step into the elevator, I stare at the mirror and say these words; “I am intelligent, I am capable, I am full of courage, today is a good day”. Well, some of those days do not turn out as expected but I still repeat same words next day.
Remember……..Idea is nothing. Execution is everything.
